Equilateral Glass Prisms Aequilateral glass prism is an inexpensive way to demonstrate white light refraction by splitting sunlight into its constituent colors of violet, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. The most popular sizes ofglass science prisms are the 100 & 150mm (4" & 6") which produce larger rainbow color patterns. Be sure to stand with the sun at your back and hold the equilateral glass prism in front of you, 0.5mm (several feet), away from a wall or some light colored surface to see the best refraction results.
Right Angle Glass Prism These right angle prisms can be used differently from standard equilateral (triangular) glass prisms. In the image below, the prism on the left  is positioned such that it can be used with a laser to demonstrate light reversal based on internal reflection. The prism to the right is positioned such that the side almost facing you could be used with a light source to reflect light upwards, a simple microscope light source. In either case, reflection can be enhanced if you have a means of "silvering" or mirroring the surface you want to do the reflecting.

Note: Right angle prisms are NOT recommended for refraction (rainbow) experiments.
